Technical workshop on “Integrating RTS-BESS in Industrial Parks in Viet Nam”
The discussions highlighted a strong and growing momentum for behind-the-meter BESS in industrial and commercial facilities in Viet Nam, particularly as industrial parks and export-oriented manufacturers seek solutions to decarbonize their operation.
#UNDP Viet Nam was pleased to convene a technical workshop on “Integrating RTS-BESS in Industrial Parks in Viet Nam” in Hà Nội, bringing together industry leaders, technology providers, developers, industrial park stakeholders, and technical experts to exchange practical insights on the deployment of rooftop solar (RTS) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the industrial sector.
The discussions highlighted a strong and growing momentum for behind-the-meter BESS in industrial and commercial facilities in Viet Nam, particularly as industrial parks and export-oriented manufacturers seek solutions to decarbonize their operation.
Throughout the workshop, speakers shared valuable perspectives on:
⚡ Global and Viet Nam BESS market trends and technologies, and Technical configurations for RTS-BESS integration in industrial parks presented by UNDP's consultant team led by Dr. Anh Hoang at RCEE JSC
⚡ Energy Management Systems (EMS) and smart operation strategies from Dr. Yongkai Xu (Victor) at ZHUHAI PILOT TECHNOLOGY CO.,LTD
⚡ Investment and deployment experiences for commercial & industrial BESS from Mr. Truong Van Long at Etek Power
⚡ Safety standards, testing, and operational risk management from Dr. Daniel Liang at UL Solutions
⚡ Key implementation challenges and opportunities in Viet Nam’s market from Dzung NguyenKhoa at COCO SOLAR
A key takeaway from the event is that developing a strong and sustainable BESS ecosystem, especially for industrial and commercial applications in Viet Nam will require close collaboration across the public and private sectors — including policymakers, manufacturers, system integrators, financiers, industrial park developers, utilities, and international partners. Recent updates to the regulatory framework, including the new TOU scheme under Decision 963/QD-BCT, also highlight the importance of continued policy dialogue and market clarity to help investors and industry stakeholders plan and scale BESS deployment with confidence.
#UNDP is looking to partner with stakeholders to help strengthen Viet Nam’s BESS supply chain and enabling ecosystem, including:
🔹 Local manufacturing and supply chain development
🔹 Technical standards, safety, and certification frameworks
🔹 Capacity building and workforce development
🔹 Pilot projects and scalable business models
🔹 Financing and investment mobilization
🔹 Policies and regulatory readiness for energy storage integration
We would like to sincerely thank all speakers, participants, and partners for contributing to an engaging and highly practical discussion.
