Technical Support to pilot a Voluntary Carbon Labelling Scheme for Vietnam
The Voluntary Carbon Labelling Scheme is part of ETP’s technical assistance to the DCC, aiming to promote initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and encourage sustainable production and consumption.
Hanoi,
November 5, 2025 – The Department of Climate Change (DCC) under the Ministry of
Agriculture and Environment (MAE), in collaboration with the Southeast Asia
Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), UNOPS and RCEE organized the Consultation
Workshop on “Design and Pilot of the Voluntary Carbon Labelling Scheme in
Vietnam”.
The
Voluntary Carbon Labelling Scheme is part of ETP’s technical assistance to the
DCC, aiming to promote initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
and encourage sustainable production and consumption. The initiative seeks to
develop a carbon labelling mechanism tailored to Vietnam’s context,
contributing to enhancing transparency in emission information, strengthening
green competitiveness, and fostering a low-carbon, circular economy.
The
workshop gathered representatives from ministries, government agencies,
international organizations, enterprises, industry associations, and technical
experts. Participants discussed the current status and development of Vietnam’s
carbon market, and provided inputs on the proposed design framework of the
Voluntary Carbon Labelling Scheme, including its scope, methodology, criteria,
and certification and verification mechanisms.
In
addition, the workshop focused on planning for the pilot phase, identifying
priority sectors, and encouraging private sector engagement. Feedback and
recommendations from participants will serve as an important basis to refine
the programme framework before its pilot implementation.
Speaking
at the event, the DCC representative emphasized: “The Voluntary Carbon
Labelling Scheme will serve as a practical tool to support businesses in
managing emissions, enhancing competitiveness, and demonstrating Vietnam’s
strong commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.”
The
workshop marks an important milestone toward establishing a mechanism to
recognize and promote corporate emission reduction initiatives, contributing to
climate action and Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.
