In the framework of the project: Resource efficiency benmarching survey for Pulp and Paper sector funded by IFC and implemented by the consortium of Exima (Denmark) and Epro and RCEE NIRAS (Vietnam), the consultant team has carried out the surveys with more than 100 pulp and paper enterprises, including 74 facilities with the capacity of from 1,000 ton/year and 30 enterprises with the capacity of 300-1000 tons/ year located in Phong Khe village, Vietnam.  As results of the survey, the selected enterprises are awared of energy efficiency and their demand for electricity consumption is not high, hence the limited energy saving potentials. However, such enterprises have consumped a remarkable volume of water for their production facilities and 73% of the surveyed facticities have their water consumption higher than the internaitonal benchmark. Furthermore, the wastewater from such production contained a high COD and BOD level, from 8 to 50 times higher than the international benchmark; and 50% of the surveyed enterprises have not installed the wastewater treatment systems. These facts and figures show the importance of water efficiency promotion measures and cleaner production among pulp and paper sector in Vietnam.
