Advanced design of a new foot bridge for the historical city Odense - Denmark

After NIRAS had won the design competition for a new foot bridge connecting the city of Odense and its port, INFA division - RCEE-NIRAS JSC participated in the design of this bridge since July 2013. It was exciting to be involved in a such special project when modeling the steel box-girder with the finite element software LUSAS or when taking into account various load combinations following the modern design standard Eurocodes. The dynamism of  the INFA team have faced the challenges of deadline and continuous changes in calculation specifications.

The proposed solution has a high quality aesthetic with smooth concrete deck parts at the two ends to access to the bridge. The 135 meterslong steel box girder forms the span over more than 20 railway tracks. The system is supported by slim cylindrical columns. A steel pylon of 40 meters height was used to emphasize the landscape. The functionality design allows the fluid flow of both cyclists and pedestrians.

The final details design was submitted and the construction is expected starting from this winter.
